• Angie Lake

    Co Founder & Teacher

Hi there, my name is Angie Lake and I’ve been teaching yoga for over 10 years now (and loving every second of it!).
I started practising yoga many years ago whilst living in Sri Lanka in my 20s and came back to it when recovering from alcoholism at aged 40. Yoga is now my life.
I originally qualified as an Ashtanga teacher and a couple of years later did my Vinyasa training in Zanzibar! Since then, I have trained in Menopause Yoga and done many CPD trainings. I am a qualified senior teacher and have taught for some wonderful studios in Edinburgh over the years.
I would like to think that I teach from the heart with warmth and compassion and feel strongly that yoga is for EVERYBODY. My own yoga practice, both on and off the mat, is continually evolving and I feel incredibly lucky to teach what I love. Opening Lila yoga with Sarah and Moira is a dream come true and I can’t wait to build a caring, fun and inclusive community.

  • Moira McFarlane

    Co Founder & Teacher

Moira’s yoga practice was off and on over many years fitting in around a very hectic life, kids and work, until in 2016, Moira met Helen Gillespie of Mudra Yoga who set up a weekly class at Moira’s restaurant Spoon. Her practice grew from there and in 2018 Moira signed up for the Mudra Yoga 200 hour YTT. During this training Moira was diagnosed with breast cancer. Yoga helped her navigate through this time. After completing her YTT & cancer treatment she then went on to do a 50hr Yin YTT with Demelza Feltham and Yoga for Cancer 50hr YTT with Vicky Fox in Triyoga London, Yoga for Breast Care with Bobby Clennel, Chair Yoga with Yuvayoga and also Trauma informed Yoga with Lorraine Close at ECY.
Moira now teaches regularly with Edinburgh Community Yoga Outreach programmes, including Chair Yoga for health and a Socially Prescribed class at Craigmillar Medical Centre . Moira believes that yoga should be accessible to all. Yoga to be a constant teacher and she a dedicated student.
‘I know too well the healing benefits a yoga practice can bring to anyone dealing with a cancer diagnosis and any long term health issues. This has become my drive and determination to try and reach out to as many people as possible and to guide them through a safe and gentle healing practice.’

  • Emma Howie Smith

    Teacher

The physical aspect of yoga was always the draw for me. I loved the lasting feeling of the rhythmic movement of vinyasa left me with. As I practised more regularly I soon realised yoga went far beyond stretching and the mental benefits it gave me were transformational.

Being able to continue practising yoga through both my pregnancies helped me retain some normality in my life during a period of huge change. Yoga helped keep my body strong & flexible and it was my saviour in those early postpartum days.

Now as a Mum of two little boys I know how exhausting and often overwhelming it can be and understand first hand how important it is to make time for yourself during this time. I absolutely love teaching pregnancy yoga and sharing the benefits of this incredible practise with mums to be. Whether you're pregnant and want to move your body in a safe and effective way or you're looking for a way to fit movement into your life with baby by your side, I can't wait to welcome you to a class soon.

  • Ali Rogers

    Teacher

Ali absolutely loves everything about yoga, even the more challenging aspects, because its an amazing practice that helps us achieve individual growth and transformation.
Ali came to yoga as a movement practice over 20 years ago however she only understood its full potential benefits while going through a difficult time in her life. Since then she has holistically practised both Vinyasa and Yin yoga consistently.
You’ll find Ali teaching Yin and the more restorative types of yoga. “Often our lives are in a very Yang state – busy, stressful, focused on others. By practising Yin we get to spend time slowing down, releasing tension and turning inwards to bring out our inner strengths and talents.” Her teaching incorporates a safe, effective physical practice with guided meditation and breathwork.

  • Sampuran Gill

    Teacher

My passion for martial arts led me to yoga because I was looking for a way to help my body move and recover better for my next martial arts class. Practicing both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and yoga has made me a more confident, calm, motivated, and determined person and helped me become who I am today, feeling much better in my body and mind. The yoga practice has also helped me understand and recognize negative thought patterns I sometimes fall into and become more accepting of who I am.

One of the most beneficial things I’ve learned from yoga and applied daily in martial arts training is the ability to control my breath and stay calm in some pretty stressful situations, both physically and mentally. When we manage to control our breath under stress, we can think and act more clearly and efficiently.

I believe that with a consistent yoga practice, we can all experience better performance, improved health, and greater peace of mind.
